A little insight to why I’ve been MIA..

Today I wanted to give you a little insight into why I’ve been MIA and let you know that I’m back. Sometimes things happen in life that knock you down so hard that it takes much longer than you expected to get back up.

In June of 2021 I got the phone call from my dad that my mom had passed away. WOW it’s still hard to write those words. I had no idea how grief would effect every part of my being. I have so much empathy for those that have lost their parents. There really is no way that I can put into words how hard it was to do everyday tasks. The pain was so deep and so huge. It was as if I was living in a bad dream.

Soon after my mom’s death, I went through a divorce. I believe a divorce is very similar to a death. It is a life changing , gut wrenching, totally paralyzing experience to go through.

I’ve always said, “I’m from the school of hard knocks” but when my mother passed away.. and then the divorce happened I was in a deep depression. I have never felt so hopeless, alone, and uninspired. I truly thought I would never feel joy again. But good news now that it’s been a year and a half since all of this happened, I’m starting to feel like myself again. I have a desire to create and connect with my community. Giving photo tips and helping beginner photographers is a huge passion of mine.

Although I’ve been dealing with a lot on a personal note, I’ve also been out there working my fanny off! I can’t wait to show you all what I’ve been working on. But most importantly I’m looking forward to reconnect with the community and be an awesome resource for beginner photographers.

Stay Inspired,

Jana Williams

P.S. As a wedding photographer I do not have the type of job I can call into or take the day off. I shot the Mimi Morris’ 10th anniversary (colorful one below) 8 days after my mom passed away. Then, I shot the beautiful Santa Barbara wedding the day after my separation. Have you ever noticed that when you are in pain and you happen to put your focus on someone else, it helps? I can say that photography helped get me through this crazy time because as a photographer we are fully focused on others.
