5 Tips While Shooting a Wedding

Whether this is the first wedding you’ve shot or your 100th, there will always be something you can learn or simply need to be reminded of. The wedding day is typically a stressful day for everyone involved especially the bride and groom! As the photographer you’re there to capture the day but there’s always that one family member who wants to chime in with their personal opinions of what would make a great photo and the bride’s great aunt Barbara has given you additional shots she would like to have. Here are 5 Tips while shooting a wedding!

Tip 1: Hire a 2nd Shooter

Even the smallest of weddings will have you running all over the place. Ensuring you get all the photos the couple has requested, your best bet is to hire someone to help you out. This way you can focus on working with the bride and groom while your 2nd can capture photos of the venue and the guests.

Tip 2: Set a Schedule

Before the wedding, sit down with your bride and groom to discuss which shots they want. If they’re working with a planner you can go over a game plan with them and see which times work best for each photo.

Tip 3: Get the shot!

Before the wedding, get to know who is who. Which one is the brides’ grandma? Who was the grooms’ college roommate? Make sure to capture these interactions! This is a big day so you want to make sure they can hold onto these memories forever!

Tip 4: Venue Overview

While you’re shooting the first looks, have your 2nd roaming around and photographing the venue while it’s still empty. There was a lot of time and effort put into getting this day put together. Not only will the bride and groom want to remember what the venue looked like the vendors love to see their finished product!

Tip 5: Stay Calm

There’s a good chance everything thing may not go exactly as planned. It’s important to remember to keep your cool! Don’t let the bride know if you’ve gotten frustrated for one reason or another. It’s their day so just remember to roll with the punches!
